The Finnish Customs has decided to send its first request for clarification regarding 15 cases of alcohol imported for individual consumption.

The request concerns a total of 9,000 litres of alcoholic beverages, said Mikko Grönberg from the Customs.

The request is sent if there is an indication that the alcohol imported is intended for commercial purposes rather than for own consumption.

A new the limit on the volume of alcohol an individual can bring from other European Union countries came into force in early July.

The clarification sent via postal mail does not specify what kind of information on the liquor should be availed to the Customs.

According to Grönberg, the importer will decide on that part. The Customs will also evaluate the overall consideration for penalties case by case, added Grönberg.

In case the importer is not able to prove the use of the alcohol, a back-tax may be imposed on the liquor. The assessment on the amount of back-tax will be determined case by case.
