The European Union (EU) will finance Croatia 700,000 euros (904,715 U.S. dollars) for training police to fight against cybercrime, Croatian Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

The project is intended to enhance the police's ability to prevent cybercrime in line with EU policies and strategies, it said.

Croatia is faced with increasingly malicious programs and cyber fraud, and introducing long-term training and new curricula for police, as well as setting up a new organizational model for the crime police directorate and regional police departments, will be important to fight cybercrime efficiently, both nationally and internationally, it said.

The European Cybercrime Centre was established in 2013, when the first strategy on cyber security and a directive on attacks on information systems were adopted.
