Total trade sales in the country increased by 0.2 per cent in July 2014 from the corresponding period of the previous year, according to the Statistics Finland. 
 
Retail sales went down by 0.6 per cent. But in daily consumer goods trade, sales grew by 1.4 per cent, while sales in department store trade went down by 1.6 per cent from one year ago, the data show. 
 
Wholesale trade increased by 1.0 per cent from the previous year. By contrast, motor vehicle sales contracted by 0.9 per cent. 
 
In July, the sales volume in retail trade decreased by 0.5 per cent and in motor vehicle trade by 1.2 per cent from one year back. In wholesale trade, the sales volume went up by 1.5 per cent from the previous year. Thus, sales increased in total trade by 0.5 per cent in July from the corresponding period of the previous year. 
 
In retail trade, turnover went down in May to July more than the sales volume, which was due to fallen prices.
 
According to the Consumer Price Index, prices of food, clothes and entertainment electronics fell in the past three months. Sales in trade industries fell in the January to July period with the exception of motor vehicle trade.
 
During period, sales contracted by 0.5 per cent in retail trade and by 0.7 per cent in wholesale trade from the respective period of the previous year. 
 
Sales in motor vehicle trade increased by 3.4 per cent from January to July 2013, the data show.
