The so-called YLE tax (public broadcasting tax) will remain unchanged, as an index adjustment will not be made to the funding of the Finnish Broadcasting Company, YLE; rather it will remain at the level for 2014, said a press release of the transport and communications ministry on Monday.

The government on Monday presented parliament with a proposal for a temporary amendment to the act on the State Television and Radio Fund. The amendment applies to the year 2015.

Behind the proposal is an agreement made in the spring between the chairmen of the parliamentary groups that, exceptionally, no index adjustment would be made because of the present financial situation.

The proposal has been appended to the state budget for 2015.

In 2014, the funding for YLE was about 508 million euros. It is intended that the amended act will come into effect on January 1 in 2015 and remain valid until the end of 2015.
