World’s leading ICT influencers and policymakers will gather at the annual Global Forum in Oulu, the capital of Northern Scandinavia, on September 28-29 to outline a road to sustainable digitalisation.

The prime minister of Finland, Juha Sipilä would welcome over 300 high-level policymakers and business leaders to the event, according to a press release.

Often called the “Davos of ICT”, the two-day event features more than 60 ICT opinion leaders presenting their views on sustainable digitalisation.

“To build a sustainable foundation for tomorrow’s digital society, we need to find answers to fundamental questions about openness, cyber security, network capacity, and service interoperability. Global Forum draws influencers and decision makers across the world to address these questions and map the foundations for digitalisation in the future,” said Oulu Mayor Matti Pennanen.

According to the mayor, Finland and Europe have an excellent opportunity to set the example of building a smoothly functioning, safe, and efficient digital society.

The Global Forum event is being organised for the 24th time following the successful events in New York, Stockholm, Brussels and Washington, D.C. This year’s event will be held at the City Theatre of Oulu.

“With its advanced regulatory environment and an ICT ecosystem built for experimenting, Oulu is an ideal testing ground for ideas, services and products, as well as a hotbed for top ICT talents. This makes Oulu a very fitting venue for this year’s Global Forum event,” observed Global Forum President Sylviane Toporkoff.

To fulfil the lofty expectations placed on digitalisation, ICT leaders have to solve several key questions, such as who owns all the data generated by the myriad of connected people, devices and applications, how privacy and security are guaranteed in future’s networked society, what new business models the upcoming 5G networks open up and how we can improve healthcare with open data and collaboration, said the release.

They would also find out how to address cyber security threats in a completely networked society.

The main themes of this year’s event are sustainable digitalisation, 5G networks, connected health, digital society and cyber security.

The Global Forum is an independent, high-profile, international, not-for-profit event dedicated to business and policy issues affecting the successful evolution of the digital society.

It brings each year in a different city around the world more than 300 key policymakers and public/private stakeholders from more than 30 countries from all continents.
