Garments manufacturing company Nanso is considering to shut down its production in Finland partly or even entirely.

The company starts codetermination negotiations at the Tornio and Nokia production facilities, and the threat of dismissal affects up to 200 people.

“We are the last of the Mohicans, as most of the garment industry has already moved abroad. We have fought against this, but now we're not sure what to do,” Nanso's managing director Leena Syrjälä said.

Nanso justifies the codetermination negotiations with their business losses which have contributed to a reduction in consumer demand, slower economic growth and the intense price competition in the garment industry.

According to the company, the trend in sales for the first half of the year has been negative, and nothing is expected to change by the end of the year.

“We have been forced to seek solutions for these problems and to consider whether we can continue production on this scale in Finland. There are still several options,” said Syrjälä.

She does not want to discuss those countries in which Nanso's products may be manufactured in the future.
