FTimes Report, Jan 23

Building permits were granted for a total of 8.3 million cubic metres from September to November 2015, which was 10.3 per cent more than one year ago, according to Statistics Finland.

The growth was mainly generated from building permits granted for commercial and office buildings.

The cubic volume of building permits granted for residential building was still growing as the data.

Greater Helsinki still had a significant share in the total cubic volume of building permits granted.

The cubic volume of building permits granted for commercial and office buildings doubled in the September to November period from one year ago.

The granted cubic volume covered one-quarter of the total cubic volume granted. The growth came from several shopping centre projects.

In the September to November period, the cubic volume of building permits granted for residential buildings grew by 9.5 per cent from one year ago, the statistics show.

The cubic volume covered by permits for residential buildings amounted to 2.7 million, of which the share of building projects granted for Greater Helsinki was 1.1 million cubic metres.

The cubic volume granted for other than residential buildings grew by 10.7 per cent in September to November year-on-year.

In the entire country, building permits were granted for a total of 7,800 dwellings in September to November, which is 6.4 per cent more than one year earlier.

More building permits were granted for dwellings in terraced houses and blocks of flats than one year earlier, while the number of building permits granted for detached houses went down further.

The constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production decreased by 1.4 per cent from September to November.

Measured by volume, 6.5 per cent more building projects than one year earlier were started in the same period. The number of residential building projects was 24.8 per cent higher than one year earlier.

The data of the statistics on building and dwelling production are based on the building permit data of the Population Register Centre.
