There were 5,006 enterprise closures in the third quarter of 2015, according to Statistics Finland.

 

Enterprise closures accounted for 1.4 per cent of the total stock of enterprises.

 

The number of closures in trade was 955, or 19.1 per cent of all enterprise closures. In construction, the enterprise closures numbered 774 and in professional, scientific and technical activities 709.

 

Examined by industry, enterprise closures were most numerous in trade. Examined by region, the number of enterprise closures was highest in Uusimaa, the data show.

 

In the fourth quarter of 2015, there were 5,817 enterprise openings.  Examined by industry, enterprise openings were most numerous in professional, scientific and technical activities.

 

Enterprise openings accounted for 1.7 per cent of the total stock of enterprises. Examined by region, the number of enterprise openings was highest in Uusimaa.

Enterprise openings and closures are deduced from the Tax Administration’s customer database. Therefore, changes in Tax Administration’s information systems or database management practices may affect the statistics and the comparability of the time series.

 

The number of enterprise openings in professional, scientific and technical activities numbered 1,027, or 17.7 per cent of all enterprise openings in the fourth quarter. In trade, enterprise openings numbered 890 and in construction 733.

 

Examined by sub-regional unit, in the fourth quarter of 2015, the number of enterprise openings was highest in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (2,236), followed by the sub-regional units of Tampere (452) and Turku (368).  

 

Examined by municipality, the highest numbers of enterprise openings were recorded in the fourth quarter of 2015 in Helsinki (1,244), followed by Espoo (329), Tampere (280), Vantaa (276) and Turku (225) as per the data.

 

Examined by region, in the third quarter of 2015, the number of enterprise closures was highest in Uusimaa (1,858). The number of enterprise closures was next highest in Varsinais-Suomi (473) and in Pirkanmaa (439). Relative to the enterprise stock, Uusimaa had the most enterprise closures (1.6%).

 

Examined by sub-regional unit, in the third quarter of 2015, the number of enterprise closures was highest in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (1,761), followed by the sub-regional units of Tampere (329) and Turku (306). Relative to the enterprise stock, the number of enterprise closures was highest in the sub-regional unit of Varkaus (2.2%).

 

Examined by municipality, the highest numbers of enterprise closures were recorded in the third quarter of 2015 in Helsinki (942), followed by Espoo (278), Tampere (211) and Vantaa (190) and Turku (166).

 

Examined by legal form, in the third quarter of 2015, enterprise closures of the form of natural person numbered 2,739 and those of the form of limited company 1,742.

 

Enterprise closures of the form of natural person accounted for 54.7 per cent and those of the form of limited company for 34.8 per cent of all enterprise closures.
