Federation of Finnish Enterprises Chief Executive Officer Mikael Pentikäinen emphasised the importance of workplace-specific agreements.

In an interview with the national broadcaster Yle in its Ykkösaamu (morning breakfast) programme on Saturday, Pentikäinen said, among other things, agreements on extension of working times should be locally made.

In Pentikäinen’s view, local bargaining would create more competition and enable the creation of new jobs.

The extension of working hours has been one of the most difficult issues of competitiveness in the social contract negotiations.

On the agreement, Pentikäinen himself has not yet taken a stand.

“It is a difficult process, but we are not there at the table, so I don’t want to comment,” Pentikäinen said.

Pentikäinen hoped that the competitiveness agreement will come together, but wants to promote the local bargaining that accompanies it.
