The Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK) on Wednesday announced that it has reshuffled its board of directors.

The move is aimed at raising the environment for Finnish companies to the level of other Nordic countries. This requires a new covenant and a positive change in attitudes throughout Finland.

The board chairman, Matti Alahuhta believes that EK has already begun the reform, since the new rules in Finland do not allow any more centralised wage settlements.

“This alteration brought out the need and opportunity to re-evaluate EK’s course of action. We must do everything we can as a country to get back to a business environment on par with other Nordic countries as soon as possible,” said Alahuhta.

EK believes in the future EK and its unions and associations will grow closer and closer and their interaction will grow. EK plans to improve in the future areas key to capacity and competitiveness of Finnish companies. These include, among other things, lobbying EU trade policies as well as for corporate and competitive laws.

EK is expected to have a new strategy for the changed situation, since, in addition to the rule changes, EK is losing member unions. In the summer, the Forest Industry Union decided to break away from the confederation.
