The number of new passenger cars registered in August was 9,196, which was 9.5 per cent up from the year before, according to Statistics Finland’s data.
 
A total of 14,715 new motor vehicles were registered, of which 10,971 were automobiles, in the month.
 
First registrations increased by 13.0 per cent from the corresponding month of the previous year, the statistics show.
 
The share of new diesel-driven passenger cars was 30.6 per cent as per the data based on the Vehicular and Driver Data Register of the Finnish Transport Safety Agency.
 
The numbers are exclusive of the vehicles on the Åland Islands.
 
A total of 129,978 vehicles were first registered  in the January to August period of 2016.
 
Compared to the year before, there was an increase of 8.8 per cent.
 
The number of passenger cars first registered in the January to August period was 83,007, which is 11.8 per cent up from the year before.
 
The most common passenger car makes first registered in the January to August period were Volkswagen, Toyota and Skoda.
