The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu will arrive Finland today on a two day visit, said a government press release.

The OIC leader scheduled to make the visit following an invitation of  the Foreign Minister,  Erkki Tuomioja. 

Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu  will hold meeting with the President, Sauli Niinistö and Speaker of the Finnish Parliament Eero Heinäluoma during the visit.

Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has been discharging the charge of the Secretary General since 2005.

The press release said that the Finnish communication with the OIC has been increasing in recent years, and the contact with Secretary General Ihsanoglu has been close in various contexts both at the political and civil servant level.

Earlier, Ihsanoglu visited Finland in 2008.

The OIC aims to engage in closer dialogue and cooperation with other international and regional organisations than before. 

It opened an office in Brussels to enhance its contacts with the European Union and the NATO. 

In its last Summit in Cairo on February 7 February, the OIC heads of state and government took a stand on most crises concerning the Islamic world and expressed their willingness to enhance cooperation on issues of interest to the Islamic world in international organizations, the press release added.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation is an organization consists of 57 states.
