Tue, 21 Apr, 2015 12:03:44 AM FTimes – STT Report, April 21 File Photo – Lehtikuva. A violent fire broke out at the Neste oil refinery at Naantali on Monday. There were no injuries reported.
According to Neste Oil representatives, the fire started during solvent production-related activities around 4 a.m. There were no people near when the fire started, and no one was hurt. The Rescue Department quickly took control of the situation and calmed the fire down.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are both being investigated. Because of the fire, the refinery ceased all activities related to solvent production. Production Director Jukka Kanerva said the fire should have no discernible effect for customers.
"According to the most recent figures, the production losses are limited mainly to solvents. For the average customers, who purchase primarily motor fuels such as gasoline or diesel, the disruption of distribution of the solvents will have no effect," Kanerva told STT.
