Trial of Cannonball Motorcycle gang began in Lahti on Monday. Photo – Lehtikuva.
The hall rented in Lahti by the District Court of Päijät-Häme was full as judicial proceeding into the case of Cannonball Motorcycle continued on Monday.

Presumably, for the first time in the country, the prosecutor called for the abolition of the association which works behind the group.

The four-day session will be held at the exhibition centre because of the huge number of the accused persons.

Approximately a hundred people, a mong others, the accused and their assistants, police officers and court officials arrived at the hall.

A total of 28 men and one woman stand accused in the case, the majority of whom belong to the Cannonball Motorcycle Club in Heiniola.

The charges include alcohol related offences, aggravated drug offences, participation in the activities of an organised criminal group and firearm offences.

In relation to alcohol offence, the court is to determine whether alcohol was sold illegally in the club's premises.

The police took special security arrangements which included frisking entrants using metal detectors. Furthermore, a street in front of the hall was cordoned off during the day. There were also a dozen police officers at the site.

The prosecutor also called for the abolition of the organisation Bridge City Custom on the grounds that it has links to the criminal organisation. The organisation rented its premises to the group and also took care of the membership fee.

Presumably, never before has the court ever abolished an organisation which had rented its premises to the motorcycle club.

The trial has been going on since early April. The prosecutor had earlier called for the association to be temporarily banned, however, the court turned down the prosecutor's request.
