Prime Minister Juha Sipilä on Thursday urged the Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) to maintain cool head and said politicians should be able to withstand criticism.

Terming the list of 13 dignitaries released by the Perussuomalaiset overreacting, the prime minister said the list may end up being discussed by the government.

He, however, said he was focused on getting the economy back in shape.

Sipilä said politicians have two options. First, according to a counsel Sipilä received from the late politician Ahti Pekkala, even though a journalist has written badly, one should still be able to maintain a friendly demeanour to the journalist.

The second option, which the premier revealed he himself adheres to, is to desist from reading too much into what has been written.

The Perussuomalaiset on Wednesday released a list of 13 dignitaries including top-ranking politicians, journalists and academicians of the country accusing them of “slander and insult” in their assessment of the party.

The leader of opposition in parliament and the chair of Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) Antti Rinne, the chair of Vihreä liitto (Green League)

Ville Niinistö, former speaker of parliament Eero Heinäluoma and former foreign minister Erkki Tuomioja are on the list, among others.

Perussuomalaiset spokesman Matti Putkonen admitted that he was solely responsible for naming the persons on the list.
