There is still a demand for new refugee reception centres, although the number of new asylum seekers has significantly dropped in the last one month.

Jorma Kuuluvainen, the head of asylum affairs at the Finnish Immigration Service said the country still needs on average two new reception centres a week each with a capacity to accommodate 200 persons. When new centres will be found, they will be filled immediately.

The estimated need for new reception centres last month was significantly higher than now. The permanent secretary to the Ministry of the Interior at that time estimated that Finland would require up to five reception centres per week.

There are currently a total of about 110 different asylum accommodation units in the country. This figure includes reception centres as well as temporary accommodation units.
