The support of the Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) has continued to dip as reflected in the latest popularity polls commissioned by the national broadcaster Yle.

The polls report released on Wednesday indicates that the Finns Party’s support fell by 0.9 percentage points taking the party’s support base tally to 9.8 per cent.

The popularity of the Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) increased 2.4 per cent rising to 20.7 per cent.

SDP, as per the survey, is the second most popular party in the country after the Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party) which enjoys 21.7 per cent of the support.

Jari Pajunen, the research director at Taloustutkimus told Yle that SDP’s rise is surprisingly big. In two months, SDP’s popularity has increased by over six percentage points.

The Finns Party’s popularity has shrunk by almost half after the parliamentary elections in April. The party’s support at that time was as high as 17.7 per cent. Last time the Finns Party’s support was under 10 per cent was in 2010.

The support of the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party) increased by 0.3 percentage points and currently stands at 18.3 per cent.

Both the Keskusta and the Kokoomus enjoy a slightly higher popularity than during the spring elections.

However, the joint support of the parties in the government has dropped to just under 50 per cent.

The Vihreä liitto (Green League) sits fourth on the popularity list with a support base of 12.2 per cent.

Taloustutkimus interviewed nearly 3,000 persons. The margin of error is +/-1.5 per cent.
