The police are investigating the alleged murder of a 16-year-old girl in Joutseno, Lappeenranta in between late Friday and early Saturday.

The law enforcers on Saturday also detained a 19-year-old man, a resident of Lappeenranta, in connection with the death.

According to the police, the case is being investigated as a murder due to the brutal nature of the death.

Witnesses of the incident suspected to have taken place near Rientola youth centre are sought.

The police at this stage were not able to shed light on the previous criminal history of the detained person, the place where the suspected crime took place or the means used to carry out the suspected killing.

It was, however, could not be known whether there was involvement of other people in the alleged murder.

The police on Sunday morning had removed the crime tape which had encircled the Rientola youth centre, said Lehtikuva photographer from the scene.

The area was still cordoned off on Saturday evening.

Extensive raid was conducted on Sunday morning around the forest near the youth centre aided by police dogs. The area was very calm.
