More complaints about sexual harassment over New Year's have been made to the police who are now investigating 7 criminal complaints about sexual crimes committed over the holiday in Senaatintori and in other places downtown.

The victims are women of different ages, and in all complaints the attackers have been described as of foreign origin, said detective chief inspector Teija Koskenmäki-Karaharju on Wednesday. The ages of the women range from 15 to elderly.

In a few of the complaints, the women were sexually harassed by a group.

“We do not yet have all the facts of what happened there,” Koskenmäki-Karaharju said, stressing that the police are now investigating to find out what really happened.

The police have started taking statements from the victims whose identities are unknown at this stage of the investigation.

“Until we have proper statements from the victims, we do not know the situation,” Koskenmäki-Karaharju said.

She noted that the overall picture of the events keep changing all the time.

The suspected offenses include sexual harassment and coercion in sexual conduct.
