Foreign Minister Timo Soini on Sunday refused to discuss an allegation that the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) was organising the passage of asylum seekers across the border to Finland.

This comes after a Russian border guard officer told the news agency STT that FSB in conjunction with the Kandalaksha district administration and the Russian border guard facilitated the passage of asylum seekers across the border.

Soini pointed out that there is no evidence to suggest that an isolated incident could lead to conclusion.

The foreign minister said he was not aware of the matter and for this reason he did not want to comment on the issue.

“It is clear that movement of asylum seekers in the world as in Europe is an organised activity, human trafficking activity,” Soini told STT while in Tornio, adding, “I am not able to take a stand until I become aware of the matter.”

STT was unable to reach Prime Minister Juha Sipilä and Interior Minister Petteri Orpo to have their comments on the allegation.
