The number of child abductions from Finland in 2015 to abroad more than doubled over the previous year, reported the Finnish language daily Keskisuomalainen.

Last year, 27 children were abducted from Finland and taken to other countries, while the previous year only saw 11 children abducted.

On the other hand, child abductions from abroad to Finland decreased from 13 to five last year. The figures come from data collected by the ministries of justice and foreign affairs.

Last year the Abducted Children’s Association received a record number of 69 notices, most of whom feared a threat of abduction, the association’s Executive Director Tarja Räisänen told the newspaper.
