The European Union repatriation agreement will help restore order at the Greece-Turkey border as well as improve the condition of refugees, said Prime Minister Juha Sipilä in the Yle Prime Minister’s Interview Hour.

However, the premier said it is possible that human traffickers may begin to use the Libyan route or the eastern routes.

Sipilä said that the EU and Turkey signed the agreement in Brussels on Friday, and that asylum seekers who enter the Greek islands illegally will be systematically returned to Turkey.

The prime minister said European Commission experts will define how the operations can be properly managed. On the part of Finland, the interior ministry will assess the nature of assistance to be extended to Greece.

“We are ready to send dozens of experts. We want to know what are the exact needs there (in Greece),” said Sipilä.

Experts have speculated that implementation of the logistic operations needs about 2,500 people.
