FTimes-STT Report, Mar 19

The former Minister of Foreign Affairs and SDP lawmaker Erkki Tuomioja, who is visiting Moscow, met the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday.

Tuomioja's trip was related to his work on the Nordic Council's report on Russia.

Tuomioja said that his discussion with Lavrov involved, for example, asylum seekers coming to Finland via Russia.

“Along with Lavrov, we have found that the situation is now under control,” Tuomioja told news agency STT.

Finland in February negotiated with Russia for stopping the influx of asylum seekers.

The agreement came into effect at the beginning of March. According to Tuomioja, there are no problems with the relationship between Finland and Russia.

“Maybe the international situation has been reflected more in Russia's relationships with other Nordic countries,” Tuomioja said.

Meanwhile, President Sauli Niinistö will meet with Russian president Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Tuesday.

Tuomioja will meet Niinistö before the presidential trip to Moscow.
