A key goal of an unnamed foreign intelligence agency’s activities last year was to influence Finland’s energy policies, reported the Finnish security police (Supo) in its annual report for 2015.

Supo communications department did not wish to specify which country’s intelligence or which energy policy detail was alluded to in the 2015 report.

“Unfortunately, the phrase has been elaborated to its maximum extent in the text already, and we cannot parse it farther. We will unravel it little by little over time, and eventually, we will release the details, but right now, unfortunately there is nothing more to say about it,” said Jyri Rantala from Supo’s communication department over phone.

The news agency STT could not reach former economic affairs minister Jan Vapaavuori or  current Economic Affair Minister Olli Rehn to clarify if the annual report’s ambiguous statement could be referring to, for example, the Fennovoima nuclear power plant project.

Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Antti Kaikkonen said he was unaware of the influence mentioned in the report.
