A district court has fined a former Oulu police officer for removing or changing speeding tickets received by other police officers, reported the Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat.

The crimes were committed between 2010 and 2012.

The retired police officer from the Oulu traffic safety centre was convicted of abuse of official position and fined 1,160 euros.

“When an official acts contrary to official duties, I always consider it serious. We don’t shrug these off,” said National Police Commissioner Seppo Kolehmainen in September when the charges were brought.

According to the Helsingin Sanomat, the judgment took into account the convicted former officer’s managerial position, which makes the operation more reprehensible.

The indictment also included a second, 50-year-old police officer, but the charges were dismissed as the statutes of limitation had been exceeded.
