Turku-based ship building company STX has lost the work orders for the construction of two passenger ferries for Danish operator Scandlines because of financial crisis.

Scandlines has made new offers for its ship following STX’s failure.

Anette Ustrup Svendsen, head of communication of Scandlines, told the STT that they hoped that STX would get the funding it topped their preference list.

According to Ustrup Svendsen, Scandlines has floated new tenders for all other European companies.

On Saturday, Finnish daily Turun Sanomat reported that Scandlines made an offer to  Stralsund shipyard.

“STX would have been technically best for us. But we had to consider other options as well, because we are already half a year behind schedule,” said Ustrup Svendsen, adding that Scandlines was waiting to hear about the offers as soon as possible.

“his has been delayed for longer than any one of us would have guessed,” she added.
