File photo AFP / Lehtikuva The number of people registered as unemployed in Spain fell by 111,916 in May when compared with April, a decrease of 2.4 percent, according to data published on Tuesday by the Spanish Ministry of Employment and Social Security.
The Ministry reported there were a total of 4,572,385 people unemployed in May, which meant a 6.51 percent fall when compared with the same month in 2013. From May 2013 to May 2014 the number of people out of work in the country decreased by 318,543.
The Ministry said that the number of unemployed people under 25 years old fell by 8,302 from April, while falling by 50,337 over the last 12 months.
The number of people out of work fell by 8,892 in the agriculture sector and by 14,265 in the industry sector.
All Spanish regions saw unemployment fall with Catalonia (in the north east of the country) and Madrid (in the center) registering the biggest falls.
The Secretary of State for Employment Engracia Hidalgo said that the fall of unemployment was a trend proving that Spain's economic recovery was having an impact on the country's labor market. More News
