The deal will increase TeliaSonera’s mobile market share in Norway to about 40 per cent from the current 23 per cent.
“The deal is ideally suited for TeliaSonera’s strategy and our goal is to strengthen our position in key markets,” said TeliaSonera CEO Johan Dennelind.
TeliaSonera will also accelerate the roll out of its 4G network in Norway so that nearly all the population of Norway will be covered by its 4G network by 2016 instead of 2018.
Tele2 has operations in Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Croatia and Kazakhstan. The company gave up its operations in Russia last year.
