FTimes-STT Report, Sept 9

There was still no notable progress in the negotiations between labour market organisations on the reform of the national pension system as by Monday.

Vesa Rantahalvari, one of the experts on the pension panel leading the talks from the Confederation of Finnish Industries - EK, told the news agency STT in the evening that the talks were expected to continue late into the night.

Rantahalvari said the package being discussed was a huge one and, technically speaking, it could not be ready by the morning.

There was still a lack of a common understanding on what will happen to pensioners after 2025.

Employee organisations are opposed to mechanically adjusting the retirement age to life expectancy.

The government has put pressure on the labour organisations to reach an agreement as the pension reform is crucial for handling the sustainability gap of public finances.
