Pekka Perä, chief executive officer of the nickel mining company Talvivaara, is suspected of crimes of degrading the environment, reported the Finnish broadcaster MTV3.
 
According to MTV3, the police suspect Perä of aggravated environmental crimes.
 
The crimes are related to waste materials allegedly discharged by the company.
 
Former Talvivaara CEO Harri Natunen, who was at the helm for six months in 2012, is also linked to the suspicion. A total of 18 people are suspected of the crimes.
 
 
The company has denied the allegations. The matter is being considered for charges.
