Favorable exchange rates, and cost reductions in pulp mills and raw materials, have spurred positive results for Stora Enso in the July-September quarter.

“Our operating results grew 17.1 percent compared to last year,” said Stora Enso’s Chief Executive Officer Karl-Henrik Sundström.

The operating profits rose as expected to euro 246 million from euro 210 million. Net sales remained unchanged at euro 2.5 billion.

Stora Enso issued the positive profit notice and announced their operating results last week.

The pulp unit's net sales grew as much as 38 as the company introduced its new Montes del Plata mill in Uruguay. Consumer cardboards net sales rose by 4 percent.

Stora Enso is preparing for the completion of a number of plant projects in the near future.

The production of raw material for corrugated cardboard has just begun in the converted paper mill in Varkaus.

The Varkaus mill will also have sometime in the middle of next year a new wooden building elements production line. Around the same time, the Guanxi cardboard machine will start production in China.
