Posti delivers record 1 million parcels during Christmas

The national postal and logistic services Posti on Tuesday announced that for the first time it had dealt with more than a million packages during the week before Christmas.

The number was 10 percent higher compared to last year's deliveries.

The reason for the record is that more packages were ordered online for Christmas this year.

The post office's number of packages throughout the year has also increased as Posti transported more than 33 million packages this year, which is 2.5 percent higher compared to the previous year.

Packages were delivered to homes, automated package lockers and post offices.

According to the post office, automated lockers have become immensely popular.

This year, 48 percent more packages moved between automated lockers than last year.

The postal services has pruned office branches in recent years and replaced them with the auto-mated locker system.
