EK President cum Chief Executive Officer Jyri Häkämies said the decision of the board was not unanimous. According to Häkämies, the majority of the board members were in favour of the negotiations. Häkämies hopes, the extent of the agreement’s coverage could still be improved. “Now we must do every possible work to ensure that the matter progresses, that this agreement is accepted and that the board considers it sufficiently comprehensive and the content is correct,” Häkämies said. Earlier on Thursday the Service Trade Union (PAM) announced that it will depart for sectoral negotiations regarding the competitive agreement under very strict boundary conditions. PAM expects a serious attitude from the employers during the negotiations, especially pertaining to how the position of part-timers will be safeguarded in connection to extension of working hours.
