The shipyard company Meyer Turku has received an order from Carnival Corporation for two cruise ships. The first vessel will be ready for the Carnival Cruise Lines in 2020 and the second in 2022.

At the same time, Carnival ordered another cruise ship from Meyer Werft in Germany for P&O Cruises.

According to the shipyard, the vessels ordered from Turku have a gross tonnage of 180,000 tonnes.

When the shipyard was still owned by STX, the Royal Caribbean cruise ships Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas had gross tonnage of more than 220,000 tonnes.

Carnival Corporation is the world’s largest cruise line owner.

Minister of Economic Affairs Olli Rehn praised the deal for strengthening the economy.

According to Rehn, the cruise ship order shows the strength of the Finnish maritime industry.
