Expert holds lack of coordination responsible
FTimes-STT Report, February 23

The immigrants in Finland are facing difficulties to integrate themselves with the society and the job market as well, said a report published by the ministry Employment on Friday.

The report also recommended that the immigrants need for more integration in the society to overcome the situation and the language skills, safety and health services will help them most in adapting to Finland.

It felt the necessity for using sports and libraries by the immigrants.

The report showed that the immigrant’s unemployment rate is about 25 percent, which is three times higher compared to the native Finnish.

The report has been prepared based on the data collected by Immigrant researcher, Mika ala- kauhaluoma, although the local Municipal authorities felt that they were meeting the target regarding the immigrants accordingly.

The offices of Immigrants also opined that the immigrants have access to their services duly.

Immigrant researcher, Mika ala- kauhaluoma, however said that the ministry’s report had no consistence with the reality.

He said that the integration process is not working because of the reason that the coordination between the authorities are not strong enough.

Criticizing the performance of the employment offices, social offices and the Kela offices  for their failure to perform responsibility jointly to serve the integration deal.

He also pointed out that the Finnish service system is not customer focused, rather they think only their budget and legal safeguards.

The Immigration director, Kristina Stenman said that the new integration act has been designed to provide responsibility to the local municipal authority, which would  be able to make the integration faster and complete.

The Immigration Directorate, however, said that that report does not give a full picture of the immigrants as the  survey was conducted based on a small number of immigrants keeping a large number of immigrants away.
