The thirteenth joint meeting of the Finnish-Russian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation will be held in Turku on Wednesday.

The Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb and Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Kozak will chair the meeting, said a government press release.

The meeting will discuss, among others, Finland's cooperation with Russian regions, innovation, shipbuilding, transport and joint efforts of the two countries in order to develop border functionality. 

The meeting will review the progress of the Finnish-Russian Partnership for Modernisation and ongoing cooperation projects, including projects in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology, telecommunications, cleantech and construction sectors as well as the development of vocational education sectors.

The two chairmen will also open the Modernisation Partnership Seminar, organised in conjunction with the meeting, which will focus on the marine industry and biomedical technology.

The Commission for Economic Cooperation is a forum for economic cooperation between Finland and Russia. The Commission's role is to remove trade and investment barriers and promote links between companies as well as the development of the climate for business.

 Fourteen working groups from different encompassing key areas of cooperation operate under the Commission. In addition, the Commission provides a framework for Finland's cooperation with ten Russian regions, the press release added.

 

 The chairmen of the Economic Commission met last in Helsinki in October 2012.
