The Kurdish community in Finland took out a procession in Helsinki on Monday, marking the 25th anniversary of a tragic massacre of Kurds in Iraq.

The Kurdish demonstrators submitted a memorandum to representatives of parliamentary and human rights groups in Finnish parliament, demanding recognition of the incident as genocide.

The murders were done by Iraqi armed forces during the then autocratic government. About 180,000 civilians were killed in that operation.

The organisers claimed about 200 people took part in the memorial precession but the police estimated the number at 50.
