Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance Party) Chairman and Minister for Culture and Sport Paavo Arhinmäki on Saturday expressed his interest to continue as the party chief for another 3-year term.
Speaking at the Helsinki district convention of the party, Ahrinmäki dubbed his experience in the last two years on the Vasemmistoliitto executive committee as positive and said he wanted to continue in the office of the chairman for another term.
The Vasemmistoliitto is scheduled to elect its chairman at the party conference scheduled for June in Tampere.
“I hope a wide debate of party’s policies and the future of Finnish society will take place at the party conference in June,” said Ahrinmäki, adding that Finland at the moment needed an extensive popular movement against selfishness and greed.
Ahrinmäki, 36, has been leading the party since 2009 after winning an election with Transport Minister Merja Kyllönen running as an opponent.
He has also been acting as a member of parliament since 2007.
