A boy of four died on Thursday after falling into a pond in the yard of his residence in Ylivieska area of northern Ostrobothnia.

Police said family members of the victim started to look for him as he disappeared all of a sudden.

The elder brother of the deceased spotted him in the pond and pulled him out.

The family members first tried to resuscitate the child and then took him to the Oulu University hospital by an emergency helicopter where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Police have filed a case of unnatural death in this connection.

In another incident, police on Friday recovered the body of an elderly lady, who had gone missing from Suomussalmi area in Kainu while picking berries last year.

The 71-year-old woman went to pick berries on July 30 last year and did not return home.

She went six kilometres deep into the forest and the rescue team had failed to trace her out.

Fire fighters rushed to the spot but the house had been burnt to ashes by the time they arrived there.
