Majority of the people in Finland believed that the country had no possibility to face any military threat in near future, according to a survey report.
More than 80 percent of the respondents made the observation in a survey conducted by the ministry of defense.
About half of the Finns also believed that there was no possibility of any threat on the country’s defense even in long term while 37 percent saw possible threat in distant future.
About 60 per cent doubted the ability of Finland to defend itself in a crisis without external assistance as resources are insufficient while 71 percent emphasized on building up a defense cooperation among the Nordic countries.
The majority of the respondents, however, wanted to maintain general military service in the country as more than 80 percent felt the necessity for compulsory military service.
The survey was conducted based on the answers of 1010 people interviewed in December last year, said the report.
