The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has appointed MerjaSundström as Press Officer at the Finnish Embassy in Berlin for a three-year term starting 19 August, said an official press release.
 
Sundström is moving to her new post at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs from MTV3 Finland, where she has worked at the Foreign Desk of News and Current Affairs since 1988.
 
Since 2010 she has been Head of the Culture Desk. Sundström also has experience of foreign-desk newspaper journalism and communication experience in the private sector.
 
Sundström holds a Master of Social Sciences degree and an Associate in Laws degree. In 1981 she completed the Ministry for Foreign Affairs training course for prospective career diplomats.
 
Press Officers have the role of promoting public diplomacy at Finnish embassies abroad. Working closely with other members of Team Finland, their aim is to increase Finland's visibility and appeal as a partner in cooperation.
 
In Berlin, the Press Officer's role additionally includes using the Frankfurt Book Fair to enhance Finland's country image. Finland will be the theme country at the 2014 Frankfurt Book Fair.
