The North Savonia District Court on Friday convicted 25 people for their involvement in drug trafficking.

The gang had trafficked in methamphetamine from Estonia and distributed it mainly in the Kuopio region.

Methamphetamine is a more potent drug than amphetamine. The three kilograms of methamphetamine smuggled in had a street value of about 100,000 euros.

The police impounded one kilogram of the haul last autumn.

Five of the accused were handed a prison sentence of about six years.

Two others were also given lengthy prison terms – one of five years and the other four and a half.

The rest of the convicts were sentenced to a few months in prison or fined.
