The Finnish Immigration Service granted almost 7,900 residence permits between January and June this year.
 
The highest number of permits was issued on the basis of employment and family ties.
 
The number of positive decisions was more than 80 per cent.
 
Almost 7,500 residence permits were granted in the corresponding period of last year and the number of positive decisions then was more than 70 per cent.
 
Most of the residence permit applications were submitted by Russian, Indian and Chinese citizens.
 
The highest number of residence permits based on employment grounds was issued to Ukrainian and Russian applicants.
 
Almost 60 per cent of work-based residence-permit applications related to employment require a partial decision.
 
The decision is made by the a centre for economic development, transport and the environment (ELY centre) which first examines whether the work the application is made for can be performed by people within the European Union.
 
The second highest number of application was made by experts followed by researchers.
