Minister for International Development Pekka Haavisto will begin a five-day official visit to China on Monday.

During the visit, the minister will meet representatives of the Chinese government as well as national and international operators in Beijing, said an official press release.

The meeting agendas include issues related to development, such as the post-2015 development goals and China’s role in resolving global development challenges.

In addition to Beijing, Haavisto will visit the city of Beihai in Zhuang Autonomous Region of Guangxi and the Stora Enso investment project there.

Finland is the biggest single owner of the forestry company Stora Enso through the holding company Solidium and the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela).

After Beihai, Haavisto will visit Shanghai, where he will meet representatives of the city and Finnish companies that operate in the region. Among Finnish state-owned companies, Stora Enso, Valmet, Metso, Kemira, Outotec, Tieto and Finnair have significant operations in the area.

The inviting party is the Chinese State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), which steers China’s state-owned companies.

Haavisto will be accompanied by representatives of Solidium, Stora Enso, Finnair and Kela and an expert from the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation.
