The police have interrogated a candidate in parish elections who is suspected of child sexual abuse.
 
The affected parties have also been interrogated, said the police.
 
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland said in a statement on Tuesday that a former employee of a parish within the Tampere diocese is suspected of a serious crime.
 
The parish received a report that the suspect in question had behaved inappropriately with underage persons.
 
The suspect had been working in the parish on a fixed-term contract, according to Education and Family Affairs Unit Deputy Director Pekka Asikainen at National Church Council.
 
Lead investigating officer Ismo Yijälä specified the number of victims to be a few.
 
The Diocese of Tampere is made up of 49 parishes. In addition to Tampere region, it includes Lahti, Hämeenlinna, Forssa and Jämsä.
