The average age of farmers rose to 51 years in 2013 from 47 in 2000, according to Statistics Finland’s data.
 
The share of farmers aged under 35 in the entire farmer population fell from 12 per cent in 2000 to eight per cent in 2013.
 
Nearly one-half or 47 per cent of farmers were aged between 50 and 64 in 2013 as per the data derived from the 2013 statistics on the finances of agricultural and forestry enterprises. 
 
In the review, agriculture and forestry are examined separately.
 
In 2013, the number of active agricultural enterprises taxed on the basis of the act on the income tax of agriculture was in all 52,210 and the average result gained by them from agriculture was around EUR 18,400.
 
The result from agriculture corresponded to good 30 per cent of total taxable income of farmer couples. The income share of agriculture constantly decreased in farmer households' all income.
