The Kittilä municipal council chairperson Timo Kurula intends to resign next week.

According to Kurula, the resignation is not related to the internal dispute which has embroiled the municipality.

"It was agreed between the parties after the last municipal elections that the chairmanship is rotated halfway through," said Kurula.

In November last year, the municipal council of Kittilä dismissed the town’s mayor, Anna Mäkelä following a controversy.

The controversy began when the mayor expressed her concerns regarding a ski-lift tender in Levi to the police bypassing the municipal board.

The former mayor of the municipality was forced to step down due to lack of confidence.

Following the dismissal of Mäkelä, an appeal was lodged in the administrative court to contend the decision.
