Juha Sipilä, leader of the country’s largest parliamentary party, on Friday said, although the government talks have progressed well, the social welfare and healthcare reform will still be deliberated until the weekend.

According to Sipilä, a policy decision in the area of taxation has been reached and its effects were currently being calculated. Discussions on taxation were to continue later on Friday evening.

Sipilä, who is leading the talks to form the next government, said the hard line on the taxation policy is that the tax rate should neither be raised nor lowered.

Tax rebate for low- and middle-income earners is envisaged, while, in other instances, taxation will have to be tightened, Sipilä said.

Detailed information on the taxation policy is scheduled to be availed on Wednesday next week, he stated.

The negotiators had a long day on Friday in order to achieve the objectives.

Sipilä was hopeful a decision on the social and healthcare reform will be reached by the weekend. However, he did not give any hint to whether the municipal federation or the regional model will be adopted.

“We will find out soon,” said Sipilä.
