FTimes – STT Report, Mar 17

New charges of abuse of official power and aggravated embezzlement have been levied against former chief of Helsinki Police Narcotics Unit Jari Aarnio.

According to the charges, Aarnio had sex while on duty, held money for a prostitute named Saara and stole 14,000 euros from her.

The woman called Saara was the first person to go public in relation to controversy surrounding Aarnio.

According to Saara’s testimony, their sexual relationship began in 1997 in connection with a case being investigated. According to her, a “one-side sexual relationship” began soon after the investigation.

Saara said Aarnio visited her every week and, in her view, came from the Pasila police department during the day. Sexual relationship was the reason for Aarnio’s visits, said Saara.

“It happened every time we met. Regardless of what condition I was in. Even when I went to the dentist to have two teeth removed, Aarnio wanted me to give him oral sex,” Saara said.

Aarnio said the sex and other stories are fabrications and that his appointments with her were related to police business.

Aarnio denies the charges levied against him.
