The Supreme Administrative Court on Friday ruled that a German couple who had been living on income support can be deported.

The man and the woman arrived in Finland in the year 2011.

According to the Court, the couple since the time they arrived in the country had been continuously surviving on income support or other forms of social assistance , and neither did they have any real chance of finding employment in the country.

The Court said that the couple could be considered to cause strain on the Finnish social security system as outlined in the Aliens Act.

The Finnish Immigration Service had earlier ordered the deportation of the couple in 2013.

The Northern Finland Administrative Court dismissed the appeal of the German couple, after which they appealed to the Supreme Administrative Court.
